The Puuc Route very rich
in decoration and columns, this tour includes the ruins
of sayil, Labna and Xlapac, engaging places, which
reminds some places of Europe, especially those whit
Roman and Greek vestiges. The visitors will also be able
to walk in the cave of Loltun, an impressive underground
gallery.
The first site Labna encompasses an area of about 1.24
sq. miles. Some of the notable structures include the
famous Arch, El Mirador, and El Palacio. Its largest
structure, El Palacio, treats you with vaulted arches,
columns, and various masks of Chac. |

The next stop was Xlapak.
The smallest of the sites, it didn’t seem worthy of its
17NP-entrance fee. It consisted of one small structure
also called El Palacio.
Sayil is a bit larger than Labna. Its main attraction is
the columns found on the Grand Palacio. Also check out
Stele 9. Archaeologists believe it to be a phallic
symbol.
Loltun caverns, whose name comes from the maya "Lol":
Flower and "Tun": Stone, are one of the biggest known
from the huge cave system that covers a great territory
in southern Yucatan. Here, the visitor can learn the
natural and cultural history of the Northern Maya
lowlands within a 10,000 years period, from late
Pleistocene to contemporary times. |
